This is the review for Blu-ray version.
Below is my cinema review of the Dark Knight, my thoughts haven't changed much but there are additions at the bottom

One of the most hotly anticipated and much hyped films of all time I'm sure you all know about this film. Currently rated number one film of all time on IMDB.com, does it deserve this accolade?
No, it doesn't...but this isn't a bad thing.
The films opens with an amazing flight over Gotham city, normally it's no big deal but in the IMAX this is full screen and I have to admit it blew me away, I got vertigo!!! The quality of the picture does not drop either. Throughout the film the picture switches from regular widescreen to IMAX fullscreen, I thought it's be noticeable and disorientating but I didn't notice it happening until well after it happened, the transitions are unbelievably smooth.
The story of the film is great with some real big surprises, the distinction between Batman and Bruce Wayne starts to blur until there is almost no difference between the two alter-egos. The Joker is totally insane, a criminal with no objective or concern for anything around him. I did feel that Two-face was really underused almost tagged onto the end of the film - his make-up is superb though.
Needless to say the performances from all the cast is top notch, there were a few surprise actors in there from the 80's who got the thumbs up too
I'm not entirely sure how to round off this review as I've tried not to give anything away, it's an excellent film well worth 2 and a half hours of your time and if you can get to IMAX, go to IMAX - it rocks the socks. I'd give it 9/10. |
This film is one of those rare beasts that improves with each viewing, there's so much in there that it can't be taken in in one sitting. On the second sitting it was the score that really stood out for me, it's immense and fits the film perfectly.
The picture and sound quality of this film is still amazing, I noticed that the IMAX thing where the aspect ratio changes (mentioned above) throughout the film, still seemless on a 50" tv.
The extras are pretty average, just your generic american style documentaries that don't really add any value.
I'd give the Blu 9/10 basically for the film alone, anything else is a bonus |
